WHAT'S YOUR WORD OF THE YEAR?
I've just finished watching a live Zoom episode of the 'Keeping Your Sh*t Together in a Stressed World' podcast presented by the very lovely Scott Grossberg and Michelle Post. The topic being discussed was choosing your 'one word' to start the New Year.
If this is a concept that is new to you, let me explain a little more.
The idea is, that at the start of the New Year, you choose one word that resonates with you - one word that you will carry with you and will have a bearing and influence on your life as you journey through the next 12 months. Scott urged us to choose something that made us feel a little uncomfortable - something that would drive and inspire us.
This year, my word has been BUILD. As January began, I was just starting to take my very first paying hypnotherapy clients, and I simplistically thought this word would relate solely to my new business. How very wrong I was! As 2020 got fully underway and COVID swept the world, I would soon see just how far the word BUILD would take me.
The catalyst was when I joined the Jacquin Hypnosis Academy and enrolled in their Professional Hypnotherapy Diploma for some extended training. BUILD suddenly had so many more connotations - I was building my confidence and building my skills, knowledge and experience (which in turn allowed me to build my clients!) Perhaps most unexpected of all, considering we were in the middle of a pandemic, I had the opportunity to build some beautiful new friendships with people from all over the world. Between us we created the most incredible and supportive community of heart-centred therapists. I could never have foreseen this at the beginning of 2020, but it has truly been a blessing and a lifeline during those dark moments that we have all experienced at various points this year.
I have decided that my word for the coming year will be COMMIT. This word resonates with me on several levels - a commitment to building my business now that my Diploma training is complete, a commitment to being the very best I can be for my clients, and a commitment to myself, to give myself self-care and self-love. I have no doubt that as 2021 unfolds it will yet again reveal more meaning for this word, - I can't wait to see what's in store,
I still have some work to do - Scott suggests that once we have chosen a word that relates to us, we choose another word that relates to how we interact with other people. After that, we should come up with three further words that connect the first two, and how we move from one to the other. This is a new and fascinating spin on the One Word concept for me - I'm going to give it some thought and see what comes up for me!
What will your word be?
